Abdomen scan
Please prepare as follows:
Infants (0–12 months):
- No solid food or milk for 2–4 hours before the scan.
- Breastfeeding is usually allowed up to 2 hours prior.
Toddlers (1–3 years):
- No solid food or milk for 4 hours before the scan.
- Clear fluids (water) are allowed up to the time of the scan.
Children (4 years and older):
- No solid food or milk for 6 hours before the scan.
- Water allowed up to the time of the scan.
- If child is a diabetic, please consult with your doctor.
- Continue taking medication as normal.

Renal / Pelvic scans
Please prepare as follows:
Infants (0–12 months):
- No preparation is usually required.
- Ensure the baby is fed as usual so they are content, and their bladder will naturally fill.
Toddlers (1–3 yars):
- Encourage the child to drink 1 cup (250 mL) of water 30–60 minutes before the scan.
- Do not let the child urinate until after the scan.
Children (4–12 years):
- Ask the child to drink 2 cups (500 mL) of water 30–60 minutes before the scan.
- Ensure they do not empty their bladder before the procedure.
Teenagers (13 years and older):
- Drink 3 cups (750 mL) of water 60 minutes before the scan.
- The bladder should be full, so they must avoid urinating before the procedure.
